…and I can dress however I want to.
Actually, it was my birthday yesterday, but for the sake of the reference. :) My wonderful suitemates took me to Chloe Dao’s Fall 2009 fashion show at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Houston. The theme was “Destruction, Death, and Rebirth”, and the night was filled with pretty outfits – not only worn by the models. It’s nights like these I wish I had an SLR camera. My point-and-shoot and not the best position in the crowd lead to some pretty bad shots. Nevertheless, here are some of my favorite looks:
And what was I wearing, you ask? Something crazy, of course! I bought this skirt a while ago at Forever 21 and had absolutely no idea when I was going to wear it. Yesterday was totally one of the best opportunities to. :)
Along with my always polished and fashionable suitemate. :)
White Plastic Aviators [Claire’s – $0.50] Flower Earrings [China] White S/S Ruffle Blouse [5-7-9 – $3.50] Green Taffeta Ruffle Skirt [Forever 21 – $12] Navy and Pink Polka Dot Ruffle Pumps [Payless – $7.50]
I had just about the most amazing weekend. I spent Friday night with the family, and caught up a whole bunch with my mom. Saturday night, I actually had my first few drinks at college, since being here for more than a year. My friend’s 21st birthday party was really great, and super classy, just like she wanted it to be. :) After that, I danced it all off at another party. Fun nights, and fun memories. This morning, I woke up with a very mild hangover, but am super happy and functioning better than a usual rainy Sunday morning. I concocted a weird outfit which is a cross between Blair Waldorf and Britney Spears’s Circus-inspired costumes.
Giving a little bit of attitude, of course. I just got these red shorts in the mail last week and have been waiting forever to wear them.
Kay’s wonderful artistic eye for photography suggested an opening up of my favorite bubble umbrella shot. :)
A view of the back, not as awesome as the front, I’d say.
And a close up, a la Anthropologie spread (September 2009) without the guy.
clear bubble umbrella [target – $17], white ruffle s/s blouse [5-7-9 – $3.50], black pinstripe suspender vest [rainbow – $11], red shorts [wetseal – $5], black burnout floral lace tights [urban outfitters – $5], black faux suede ankle boots [mandee – $12], red/gold heart ring [forever 21 – $4]
It’s been really rainy in Houston the past few days – and with tests/general busy-ness for both my photographer and I, I just haven’t gotten around to updating. While a true fashionista should break out some sick rainboots and cute umbrellas, I have been too occupied running around in heels from class to class and passing out on my books. :P Though I was not going to upload this outfit post, Jen suggested that I do. I figure I can’t leave y’all hanging, right? :)
So the post-that-was-not-going to be posted! At my university there’s this annual tradition in which roommates set their roommates up on blind dates, and at a certain time, everyone gets dressed up in cute costumes and meet at one place. Typical examples include a plug and an outlet, PB&J – though there have been creative ones like Juno, Charlie the Unicorn, etc. This year, my suitemate had me dressed up in black and white (though the consensus at the end of the night was that I embodied music). She called it a very “Blair” Outfit – so here’s to that!
With a group of my friends outside our dorm. With my date within a minute of finding him.
The night was super fun, since it was with an awesome group of people. But back to fashion blogging. :)
gold pearl leaf earrings [H&M/Gift From Jen], gold owl necklace, [Forever 21 – $5], black lace cami [old navy – $5], white ruffle s/s blouse [5-7-9 – $3.50], black 3-buckle wide belt [5-7-9 – $5], black and white watercolor pencil skirt [H&M – $10], black and white bow peep toe kitten heels [payless – $7], sky blue snakeskin mini tote [express/gift]
Thanks to the wonderful Kay I’ve got some more pictures today. :) After finishing all most of my work in the past three days, I decided it was time to take a break, do something fun, and get dressed up a little. :) To accommodate my good mood, I thought, why don’t I just pile on all the brights I own?
I had several questions as to why I was so dressed up/if I was going anywhere. I’m going to take that as a sign of I haven’t been dressed up enough – though there have been several people around campus that have noticed me from far away because I’m one of the few girls that wears heels pretty much everyday. So, I’ll have to kick it up a notch in dressing up. :)
I suppose I liked the angle of this shot…almost looks like I’m hiding behind the tree, no?I chose this picture for Jen, as proof to how much running up 5 flights of stairs everyday several time can do to my previously very flabby legs. Only the rest of my body is unproportionately flabby now…
Closeup of my jewelry. Inspired by my suitemate Eva, I’ve become a cocktail ring girl. :)
neon orange necklace [claire’s], turquoise & black kanga dress [a’gaci – $5], yellow geometric belt [5-7-9 – $5], orange pumps [payless – $10], red heart cocktail ring [forever 21 – $4], black jeweled flower cocktail ring [charlotte russe – $4]
More like in trashbags and random boxes from the short 40 minute drive from my house to college. :) I guess it’s a fun move for me, but it’s nothing like moving from city to city in Europe – which is what Jen’s doing right now. This will be my last “What I Wore” for a while, as I find a new photographer/photographers at college. I’m sure y’all would appreciate the change in scenery though! So until I show off my newly purchased items (Speaking of which, I’ve spent nearly $500 on clothes and such this summer…), here’s what a friend of mine calls the “modern Audrey Hepburn look”. Black is forever in, isn’t it?
I wore this dress backwards! Inspired by Angelina Jolie and her BCBG of course. :)
kenneth cole reaction black sunglasses [tjmaxx – $10], black and white silk striped scarf [china], gray mesh chain tank [urban outfitters – $5], black zipper ruffle dress [wet seal – $7], black 3-buckle wide belt [5-7-9 – $5], black gloves [china], black &white bow peep toe kitten heels [payless – $7]
Well, for now. I might go back Thanksgiving/Winter Break for some money. :) It was definitely sad leaving a place I worked at and made and lost friends over the past 4 months, well mostly made. I haven’t done one of these in a while, and I’ll definitely have to make up posting, since Jen will be in Europe until the 27th. Hopefully, she can update y’all with beautiful photos. :)
I put this outfit together as something crazy and fashion forward. I have yet to muster up the guts to wear this in public one day. Actually, I don’t know where in public this outfit would be acceptable and not draw weird looks. :P
magenta scarf [ny&company – $6], mustard ruffle dress [wet seal – $5], rampage black tulle skirt [macy*s – $12], black 3-buckle wide belt [5-7-9 – $5], black ankle boots [mandee – $11], vintage pearls [borrowed from mom], kenneth cole reaction black sunglasses [tjmaxx – $10]
I’m going to get a little personal with you readers here. This past year, I’ve sort of been in a relationship rut. Lots of bad things happened early on in college that made me lose faith in guys, lose faith in love, and pretty much lose faith in myself. It took me a really long time to get over all of it, and this guy I met at work this summer helped me, in the most unexpected way. Anyway, I just came back from a date with him, and it went beautifully. I just can’t help but feel sad that we have to say goodbye like this. We’re of two separate worlds, leading two separate lives. Thus, a beginning of something good felt like an end.
With that said, here’s an outfit that might express my mood a bit (I did not wear it on the date!):
black zip back mesh tunic [urban outfitters – $5], silver heart locket [things remembered/gift from roommate], black 3-buckle wide belt [5-7-9 – $5], black burnout rose tights [urban outfitters – $5], black ankle boots [mandee – $11]
