Black Friday Madness!

So after the Turkey and indulgence in fat last night, I thought it’d be appropriate to walk all that fat off by shopping!  I mean, pushing through people to get to sales, moving racks and racks of clothes back and forth – that’s some serious calorie burning right there! ;) I decided to abandon my trusty heels for this occasion, because let’s face it – there’s no way I’ll walk fast enough in those.
gray dolman sleeve shirt [charlotte russe – $5], black and white striped silk scarf [china -gift], black tights [target – $6], blue corduroy shorts [walmart – $5], black studded braided skinny belt [wetseal – $3], black flats [wetseal – $7]

I bought a boyfriend blazer and denim a-line skirt at 5-7-9 for a total of $10 – a totally sweet deal.  My sister got me some cute green tights for christmas that I’ll be debuting soon.  Lastly, I got these plum colored moccasins at Payless that I’ve been coveting quite a while now.  I promise pictures in the near future. :)

It’s getting chilly here…

…and chilly, by Houston terms, means about low 60s.  Nevertheless, you’ll find natives around here wearing big heavy jackets, prepared for the “winter”.  I decided to give this furry hoodie a second chance – I was just about to give it away until I realized that it was one of the few “transition” jackets I had.  I was impressed that it managed to go well with some of my more fashionable items of clothing – and the fact that it managed to match my hard to match heels.
hunter green faux fur hoodie [joujou – $17], cream embroidered tank [wet seal – $5], brown beaded necklace [charlotte russe – free], teal woven belt [forever 21 – $3.50], boho print skirt [wet seal – $4], brown tights [target – $6], hunter green mary jane heels [payless – $10]
A close-up of the heels.  I had to make my photographer practically lie on the ground to get a pic of these.  She’s absolutely wonderful.  Also, Kristania of monochromachic has the same pair – be sure to check her out, the girl’s got great style. :)
A closeup of the necklace.  It came with a top, so  I guess it’s technically free. ;)

How many outfits do I go through a day?

Far too many.

Part of having a fashion blog almost guarantees shopaholicism for me.  At the same time, I’m lucky that I own as many clothes as I do because I average about 4 outfits a day.  The “going to class” outfit, the “lounging around” outfit, the “hanging out with friends” outfit, and the “hanging out with a certain boy” outfit”.  That’s of course, not including the “working out” outfit and the “going to sleep” outfit.
Yesterday I went shopping with my photographer Kay.  My Esperanza (fall formal dance on campus) dress finally arrived in the mail (though it needs lots and lots of ironing).  Therefore, I found it an opportunity to go and buy a silver belt to match it.  Kay and I trekked to XXI with limited time and bought home few things, but of course, wanted a whole bunch.

Here’s the “going shopping” outfit for yesterday:

CIMG3436I couldn’t take too many pictures, as this was downtown Houston – which means lots and lots of strangers from the real world and not the sheltered bubble I’m used to being in.
The earrings I wore are my favorite pair, and I promise a closeup for y’all next time. :)

mustard braided flutter sleeve shirt [charlotte russe – $5], teal braided belt [forever 21 – $3.50], black and white floral button skirt [mom’s hand-me-downs], sky blue crocodile print mini-tote [express/gift], metallic cutout platforms [target – $7]

New Clothes, New Ways

The past couple of days have been fun but busy.  On Friday, I went to the Houston Galleria with some of my favorite girls, and I decided, why not try something refreshing and new?  I had bought this cardigan several weeks ago in the clearance section of NY & Company.  It was definitely a little big for me, but I thought, I’ll have to make it work somehow.  I gave it a go as a dress, how does it look? :)

A Little Bit Bold, and A Little Bit Lacy

I had just about the most amazing weekend.  I spent Friday night with the family, and caught up a whole bunch with my mom.  Saturday night, I actually had my first few drinks at college, since being here for more than a year.  My friend’s 21st birthday party was really great, and super classy, just like she wanted it to be. :)  After that, I danced it all off at another party.  Fun nights, and fun memories.  This morning, I woke up with a very mild hangover, but am super happy and functioning better than a usual rainy Sunday morning.  I concocted a weird outfit which is a cross between Blair Waldorf and Britney Spears’s Circus-inspired costumes.

CIMG3281Giving a little bit of attitude, of course.  I just got these red shorts in the mail last week and have been waiting forever to wear them.
CIMG3292Kay’s wonderful artistic eye for photography suggested an opening up of my favorite bubble umbrella shot. :)
CIMG3293A view of the back, not as awesome as the front, I’d say.

CIMG3291And a close up, a la Anthropologie spread (September 2009) without the guy.

clear bubble umbrella [target – $17], white ruffle s/s blouse [5-7-9 – $3.50], black pinstripe suspender vest [rainbow – $11], red shorts [wetseal – $5], black burnout floral lace tights [urban outfitters – $5], black faux suede ankle boots  [mandee – $12], red/gold heart ring [forever 21 – $4]

Girls Night Out!

So, I’ve been a total lamebutt and dying to post an actual fashion post instead of a…this is my life, and this just happened to be the outfit I wore that day kind of post (see previous post). :P
Tonight, I went with couple of the girls in my dorm for dinner, frozen yogurt, and of course, some shopping!  We did a mini Secret Santa for each other…and got each other little gifts under $10 within the two hours we spent shopping.  There was some speed shopping involved. ;)
I ended up buying a beige/white piped boyfriend cardigan from New York & Company for myself, and burnt red braided flipflops from Urban Outfitters for my friend Kelle.  From my friend (though most of you recognize her as my college photographer) Kay, I received this Christmas plaid s/s open cardigan from Urban Outfitters.  I swear it’s pretty unique. :)  Nevertheless, some pictures from today!  Pictures that were taken to be actual fashion shots! :D

CIMG3263

CIMG3271I tried to get some cool jumping shots for y’all…but I’m sort of a fail at those.  Next time, I promise, the trampoline will do the trick. :)

CIMG3274And with some of my favorite girls – Kay (first time the photographer’s in photos!), Kelle, Me, and Laura.

white rib tank [wetseal – $4], yellow crochet tunic (worn as dress/jumper) [mandee – $7], siena braided belt [mom’s hand-me-downs], magenta long summer scarf [ny&company – $6], orange quilted chain purse [target – $6], gold woven sandals [payless – $13]

Temptation.

So, before work today, I made a quick run around the mall to shop for some things I need.  Judging by the fact that I’ve been shopping all summer, need doesn’t seem to be the right word to use.  But, I have neglected to get summer footwear…yes, I haven’t managed to get a pair of decent flipflops or gladiator sandals until now.  Also, with the popularity of these lariat necklaces and bright statement ones, I couldn’t help but pass up on the Buy 10 for $10 deal at Claire’s.
I promise some jewelry pictures soon, but for now, my new comfy shoes!

Nadia Ring Sling, $12.99

I took this picture several days ago, and thought to myself, if I wore this on a date, I’d scare my date away with all the romanticism in the outfit!  Anyway, here’s the pic!

ivory lace tie-back shirt [kohl’s – $5], rose crossback bubble dress [wetseal – $15], red patent belt [a’gaci – came with dress], metallic cutout platforms [target – $7]

Okay, so last part of this multi-function entry!  I was at work today when I realized we had so many more markdowns on handbags!  My mom really needs to retire her little shoulder-strap handbag that I bought for her when I was…12…that now only 12-year-0lds and my mom, carry.

It looks better in person, the material.

It looks better in person, the material.

In black and khaki, which color?

Similar to above, only different style.

Similar to above, only different style.

Also in Black and Khaki.

After weighing the Pros and Cons of each bag, which is really function vs. style – Bag 1 is a zipper-close while Bag 2 is a snap-close, Bag 2 looks more stylish than Bag 1.  Opinions?  (These handbags come to about $12.00 with my discount! :))
